The choir has been in existence since the late 19th century and at that time consisted of more than 60 choristers.
In the early 20th century the choir changed its name to the Risehow and Gillhead Male Voice Choir because of its close association with these two local coal mines.
In the 1930's the choir was succesful in completing a hat-trick of wins at the North East regional music festivals held in Newcastle.
The choir reverted back to its original name in the 1970's after the closure of the local mines.
It has appeared twice at the Festival for Brass and Voices held at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006 and 2009, in aid of Cancer Research.
Presently the choir consists of 29 members and offers its services free to charities, religious institutions and community good causes.
We rehearse every Wednesday evening at Fleming Place Social Club, Maryport, between 7.30 and 9.30 pm.
Why not come along and join us, a simple audition to determine your voice range and whether you can sing in tune is all that is required.
